Classification of Transducers । Different types of Transducers
In today’s article we will discuss different types of transducers. That is, how many types of transducers? We will discuss the classification of different types of transducers and sensor.
The classification of transducers is discussed below;
(A) Transducers can be basically divided into three parts, viz-
- Mechanical transducer,
- Electrical transducer,
- Electrormechanical transducer.
(B) Electrical transducers can be divided into two parts on the basis of required power output, viz-
- Active transducer,
- Passive transducer.
(C) The transducer can be divided into two parts based on the output signal, viz-
- Analog transducer,
- Digital transducer.
(D) In operation, the transducer can be divided into two parts, viz-
- Primary transducer,
- Secondary transducer.
(E) Transducers can be divided into four parts based on electrical properties, viz-
- Resistive transducer,
- Capacitive transducer,
- Inductive transducer,
- Electronic transducer.
Here is a brief description of some of the necessary transducers:
What is a primary transducer?
Transducers that cannot convert a physical quantity to an electrical quantity but assist another transducer in that task are called primary transducers. Basically it works like a Detector.
What is a secondary transducer?
The transducer through which the output signal of the primary transducer is converted into an electrical signal is called a secondary transducer.
What is an active transducer?
A transducer that does not require an external power source to convert a physical quantity into an electrical quantity is called an active transducer. Such as- Photocell, thermocouple.
What is a passive transducer?
A separate external power source is required to convert a physical quantity into an electrical quantity through a transducer. It is called passive transducer.
What is an electrical transducer?
Transducers that convert physical quantity into electrical quantity. It is called Electrical Transducer.

What is a mechanical transducer?
Transducers that convert physical quantity into mechanical quantity. He is called a mechanical transducer.
What is an analog transducer?
The converted output of all transducers is of analog nature. It is called analog transducer.
What is a digital transducer?
The converted output of all transducers is digital in nature. That is called a digital transducer.
What is a resistive transducer?
The resistivity of all the transducers varies with the change in the physical quantity applied to it. It is called a resistive transducer.
What is a capacitive transducer?
The change in the physical quantity applied to all the transducers results in a change in the capacitance. It is called capacitive transducer.
What is an inductive transducer?
Inductance changes as a result of changes in the physical quantity applied to all the transducers. It is called inductive transducer.
